Job Opportunity: Freedom School Site Coordinator

Metanoia: Who are we?

Metanoia is an established leader in community development in the Charleston region. We pursue an innovative model to amplify opportunities for a thriving community with families in under-resourced neighborhoods in North Charleston.  We support a movement that champions co-creating a thriving neighborhood as a stable foundation for sustaining and nurturing the community’s unique gifts and talents.

Why work for Metanoia?

We value every family as partners.  As such, Metanoia partners with families in their journey to build happy, secure futures. For example, our after-school programs are not free to parents but requires parents/families to invest four hours-worth of community participation each month.  By creating systems of exchange, we create a sense of pride and ownership that community members feel toward Metanoia.  The highest compliment that is paid to us is when residents refer to Metanoia as “us” or “we” rather than “them.” To learn more about our organization please visit our website at metanoiasc.org.

We have a Summer CDF Freedom Schools Program Site Coordinator position available, and we are looking for a candidate who wants to join our fantastic team, located in the North Charleston area.

The Children's Defense Fund (CDF) mission is to ensure every child a Healthy Start, a Head Start, a Fair Start, a Safe Start and a Moral Start in life and successful passage to adulthood with the help of caring families and communities. The CDF Freedom Schools® program is a direct service initiative coordinated nationally by the Children’s Defense Fund in partnership with local community organizations. It is an educational and cultural enrichment program that provides summer options for children and strengthens family and community involvement.

The mission of CDF Freedom Schools programs is to boost student motivations to read, generate more positive attitudes toward learning, increase self-esteem and connect the needs of children and families to the resources of their communities. The program serves children in grades kindergarten through twelfth for six weeks. The activity based Integrated Reading Curriculum (IRC), which is aligned to the Common Core State Standards, integrates reading, conflict resolution, and social action, and is designed to promote social, cultural, and historical awareness.
