#BeHereLiveWell
creating a thriving north charleston with the youth and families who live, work, and play here
our initiatives
Metanoia is a nonprofit organization dedicated to community development through community-based leadership and goals, as identified by North Charleston residents beginning in 2002. Our core focus areas, each encompassing various initiatives, are:
Safe, nurturing after-school and summer enrichment spaces for children
Quality, affordable housing
Economic re-energizing of disinvested North Charleston neighborhoods
Youth leadership
Scholars work year-round to build character, commit to excellence, and exhibit the presence of a leader. Young leaders also focus on academics, create opportunities for themselves, and build leadership skills in these three areas.
Affordable housing
Guided by strong voices from within the community to address housing problems, we learned that neighborhood families needed access to attainable housing options to help guarantee student success. This insight led to Metanoia’s affordable housing initiative beginning in 2005.
Economic development
We recognize that a healthy community is one where individuals have genuine opportunities for earned income. That income must also remain in our community through additional chances for local spending that increases economic mobility for us all.
Metanoia is collaborative, relaxed, and results-oriented with a strong culture and reputation that we depend on everyone in our community to carry forward. Our work together experiences days of both exhilaration and heartache, but faithfulness to our mission helps us endure any victory or loss we may experience. When we work together, we see positive changes both around and within us.
